Programme Advisor
Dr Thulani Eugene Mhlongo is 56 years old, Human right advocate and specialist on inclusion of rights for the LGBTQI+ on health, law and treatment promotions. Dr Thulani holds at Philosophiae Doctor (PhD-Educational Management) from the (University of Johannesburg) , a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with the (University of Wolverhampton-United Kingdom -Full time studies), a Master of Management in Education (MED – Management with the (University of Johannesburg) , a Bachelor of Education with Honors (BED – Hons) with (University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg) with Higher Diploma in Adult Basic Education and Training (University of South Africa) in Diploma in Psychology in (Intec College), a Community Support Educator Programme Certification with the (University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg) and Diploma in Counseling Skills with the (Damelin Business College).
Scholarship – International Visitor Leadership Programme-USA (IVLP- 2013)
Dr Thulani Eugene Successfully participated and completed the International Leadership Programme Course, Particularly Based on the U.S.A- Approaches to Supporting Survivors of Gender – Based Violence (SADAC regional Project) as from April 29th- May17th 2013 by the Department of State. Based on the work-related Activities, on the 7th day of May 2013 was awarded and made an Honorary Citizen of the City of the Rapid City of South Dakota one of the Cities within the fifty (50) States of the United States of America. This is based in recognition thereof and with all Honors thereof for my commitment in Human Rights, leadership and professionalism especially on the facilitation of social and economic based developmental matters accordingly.
Successfully participated and completed HIV/AIDS & Life Skills Courses, and as from 1st – 31st May 1998 awarded a scholarship by the USAID, for the Training of Trainers HIV/AIDS Counseling Course in Kenya. Delivered and organized a variety of youth and adult community Learning and Counseling activities within the course for the benefit of the Eastern and Southern African Regional participants.
Educational Consultative Activities
Over the years continued to work on a part time bases as a consultant for the Gauteng Department of education and health focusing on events management based on, teacher training and professional development including mentorship of the novice teachers. Assisted teachers and health care workers through the concerned Departments on relevant teaching, skills development, professional development and research activities especially on issues concerning leadership and strategic HR/HRD management in education, health, curriculum development and management coupled by related policy analysis based on human resources development and management in education through skills development based on systems and processes and as informed by relevant legislation and policies.
Charity, Politics and Leadership experience –Voluntary work
I am a former board member and Treasurer of the Itireleng – Ikageng – Aids Ministry for Orphaned and vulnerable children. I’m now a part time mentor for individuals within the organization especially for the concerned leaders and coordinators within areas of the organizational and human resources development and management. This process assists me in continuously sharing my skills and experiences gained over the years of community development and ongoing learning. I act as a mentor and a counselor for individuals within the organization and other relevant charity/cooperate organizations including Provincial Government departments within the Gauteng Provincial Government.
A member of the African National Congress, early nineteen ninety (1990) joined the ANC because it represents my political and leadership ideologies and political vision for my country-South Africa. Over the years, I have been involved in various community-based organizations as a leader and a mentor particularly as an activist served on the following structures: represented the Soweto Chapter of the former Gay and Lesbian Organization of the Witwatersrand, National Coalition for Gays and Lesbian Equality, represented the LGBTIQ+ communities within Orlando West Branch-Soweto from 1994- to date. September 2011 was nominated to serve on the Soweto Media Resource Center’s Board of Directors (Jozi FM) followed by the second nomination (January 2012) to represent the LGBTIQ+ (Sector) community within the Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality‘s Mayoral AIDS Council (JAC), serving under the leadership of the Mayor of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality, again representing the LGBTI Sector within the Multisectoral AIDS Unit-Provincial Department of Health, for National and Provincial AIDS Strategy-Plan (NSP &PSP & LSP).
